How did a lamb roar like a lion? - by John Gierke
March - "in like a lion - out like a lamb."
So goes the saying about the transition from Winter to Spring, and the weather this month of March has once again shown it to be fairly accurate.
When we think about this time of year on the church's calendar of Holy Week and Easter, we could also say, "In like a lamb and out like a lion." Jesus, the Lamb of God, took away the sin of the world! He fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy in Isaiah 53 "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open His mouth. ...After the suffering of His soul, He will see the light of life and be satisfied; by His knowledge My righteous servant will justify many, and He will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give Him a portion among the great, and He will divide the spoils with the strong, because He poured out His life unto death and was numbered with the transgressors. For He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."
This same Jesus is also called both the Lamb of God and the Lion of the Tribe of Judah in Revelation 5! Jesus is humble and honored, but not sheepishly bashful. He is the One and only who has conquered Satan, sin and death! That's why we not only celebrate His resurrection at Easter - but also year-round since because He lives, we too shall live!
While the saying about the month of March talks about lions and lambs coming and going, Jesus promises to be with you always, and "the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." (Psalm 121:8)
With this comfort - March into April with the Joy and Certainty of God's Forgiveness through Jesus Christ, who is the Lamb of God and the Lion of the Tribe of Judah - no foolin'!
